‘Of Womb & Water’

This painting is the story of womb and water. Speaking to the experience navigating pain, femininity and fertility. Held in a home by the river on Sḵwx̱ wú7mesh territory as a guest on these lands this past year I redefined my relationship to my body through touching the oceanic depths of illness. A pace once possible for me, was slowed and simplified. My practices shifted to match my physical capacity. Bearing witness to the cycles of life and death, the changes of the land and water in tandem with those inside of me, carried like a dream. Just as glimmers of light and hope came through the opalescent river that I visited every day, I began to heal and the salmon began to run. These piece brings life to that exploration through liminal spaces for me, the impermanence of forever, the animals that visited me and the creativity that carried me through time.
